Define Information Assets: Option 2: Cybersecurity Office Excel

This is one of the options available for Defining the System Assets.

Cybersecurity Office Excel

The primary means by which Information Assets are typically imported into Cybersecurity Office is in bulk via an Excel spreadsheet.
Victorian Public Sector (VPS) organisations are required to maintain an Information Asset Registry, and so an existing Information Asset Registry often already exists in the organisation. This may be in the form of an online system, such as in ServiceNow, or a variation of the OVIC Sample Information Asset Register (IAR) .
One way or another, that day is usually able to be exported, copied to or already in an Excel spreadsheet.
Once in Excel, the data can be copied into the format required to be imported into the service.
  1. If the Options section is not open, click on it to expand the available Options.
  2. Click on 'Option 2: Cybersecurity Office Excel'

  3. If you don't already have an excel file in the right format, click the 'here' link to generate one from the current state of your Security Profile
It can help if you add one sample Information Asset manually so that you can see how that is represented in Excel before populating the spreadsheet.
  4. Update the details on the InformationAssets worksheet in Excel and save the changes
When your Security Profile is already populated, all data in the Excel file will be ingested and any matching entities updated.
To constrain which data is imported, just keep the worksheets with the data required. For example, if you only want to import Information Assets data, delete all worksheets except for the InformationAssets worksheet before uploading.
  5. Click on the 'Import Asset Registry' button, click the 'Choose File' button on the dialog and then click the 'Import' button

  6. When it is complete, the Information Assets table should be updated to reflect the content of the spreadsheet.
