Define Platform Teams: Option 1: Asset Hierarchy Holistic Entry - Manual Entry

This is one of the primary approaches to for utilising the Asset Hierarchy Holistic Entry.

Manual Platform Team Entry

Similar to Option2, the asset hierarchy panel has an Add button near the bottom right, above the main Platform Teams able.
  1. Ensure the Security Profile below the 'Name' column heading is selected

  2. Click the 'Add' button to bring up the Add Dialog

  3. Enter the ID, Name and Summary for the Platform Team
    The ID should be a short identifier that can be used for referencing the Platform Team in other areas, while allowing the name to be changed without breaking those references.
    Both the ID and name must be unique.
  4. When done, click the 'Create' button.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 until all Platform Teams have been defined. This can be revisited later if necessary.

Environments

Below each Platform Team in the asset hierarchy are environments. A default 'Production' environment was created as part of the VPDSF Setup step. This can be added to all of the Platform Teams automatically in one step as follows:
  1. Ensure the Security Profile at the top of the asset hierarchy is selected 
  2. Click on the triangle next to the Add button to display the popup menu

  3. Click the 'Add Default Elements' menu item
If any new Platform Teams are created later, this can be repeated.

System Assets

Using the asset hierarchy view can help prompt for the System Assets that need to be added for each team and environment.
  1. Select an Environment in the asset hierarchy to add System Assets to
  2. Click the 'Add' button to display the 'Select and/or Create a System Asset' dialog

  3. Existing System Assets will be displayed in the table, new ones can be added to those to select from by clicking the 'Create' button at the bottom right.

  4. Once the System Asset to be added to the environment in the context of the Platform Team above it is available to select, either from the existing list or after creating a new one, click it to select it
  5. With the required System Asset selected, click the 'Select' button to add it to the asset hierarchy
    This places this System Asset at this point in the asset hierarchy, and associates both the parent environment and platform team with the System Asset.

  6. For each additional System Asset required, repeat steps 1-5

Information Assets

As with the System Assets, the Information Assets can be added within the context of the System Assets using the holistic view of the asset hierarchy.
  1. Select an System Asset in the asset hierarchy to add Information Assets to
  2. Click the 'Add' button to display the 'Select and/or Create an Information Asset' dialog

  3. Existing Information Assets will be displayed in the table, new ones can be added to those to select from by clicking the 'Create' button at the bottom right.

  4. Once the Information Asset to be added to the System Asset is available to select, either from the existing list or after creating a new one, click it to select it
  5. With the required Information Asset selected, click the 'Select' button to add it to the asset hierarchy
    This associates this Information Asset with the selected System Asset, however a single Information Asset can be associated with multiple System Assets

  6. For each additional Information Asset required across multiple System Assets, repeat steps 1-5
